MiND OF A CHILD

The mind of a young child is an amazing thing. I am babysitting Tegan today and he is playing on the Internet with something called Webkinz. My grandchildren(both the Nebraska ones and the Wisconsin ones) are Webkinz junkies and they turned my into one a few months ago. These creatures are stuffed animals that become computer interactive once you adopt them and enter a code online. You can then build them rooms, buy them things and play with them. They talk to you and you can talk to other Webkinz and go to their rooms. It is totally addictive and whoever dreamed this up has probably become a millionaire by now. I know my grandchildren have several of these and I already have 3! It is fun to go online with them and play with the grandchildren both here in Wisconsin but also the ones in Nebraska that I don't get to see very often. If you get a chance to check them out you'll see for yourselves just why Webkinz are so much fun and you might even want one for yourself.

Tegan and I took a walk later this morning to go see George at work. Teagn was picking wild flowers along the way to give to his mother and we had a really great conversation that I just have to share with you. I love talking to my grandchildren because they have great wisdom if you listen carefully. Here is our conversation.

Tegan: I'm picking these flowers for my mom because she likes flowers.
Me: I used to love getting bouquets like that from my son when he was a little boy too but he's all grown up now so I don't get them anymore
Tegan: But he'll always be your son
Me: Yes he will and maybe someday he'll get married and have a son just as smart as you
Tegan: Or a girl
Me: That's right or a girl
Tegan: Or twins........ or one of each
Me:True
Teagn: Or 6... but not 100 cause that's too many
Me: Yes, way too many
Teagn: I know what 3x3 is Want to know?
And just like that the conversation had changed to something else. Aren't kids wonderful?

Rambling

Last night Tegan and Carla biked over to visit. Tegan couldn't wait to tell us he grilled out for supper- he is so proud that he knows how to man the grill and can take control of the outdoor cooking. He made hot dogs and brat patties. Of course once he was over he wanted to play soccer with Grandpa in the 80 degree heat and humidity! They did mange to kick the ball around a little while Carla and I sat under the shade of the umbrella and watched. I am sharing a few pictures with you.

Speaking of patio furniture-I bought one of these chests to store the chair cushions in yesterday from Target. The box said no tools necessary- Assemble in 5 minutes. Yeah right, it took me 20 minutes to wrestle with it and then I ended up having to get George to help me finish it. Whoever decided it would only take 5 minutes obviously wasn't a 4' 11" woman weighing 102 lbs! Get real!

George is golfing tonight after work so I will be alone for supper, which is ok can then I don't have to cook and can eat junk food. On nights like this I love to eat a whole box of macaroni and cheese by myself or a big juicy cheeseburger and fries! Things I don't normally fix for supper. It's good to indulge the inner child once in a while.

This weekend we are going to butcher chickens at Jennifer's. Yes people still do that. Sounds crazy doesn't it and I'll agree when it's 80 some degrees out, hot, humid and ever piece of clothing you have on is sticking to you, the last place you want to be is in a barn plucking chickens! But come this winter when I reach into the freezer and pull out one of those nice plump chickens and fry her up- oh yeah, then I remember why I do it. So guess a few hours of icky work is worth it later on. I'll think of all of you when I bite into that drumstick.

Tuesday Teaser

Welcome to the Chrouser Chronicles. In the upcoming weeks and months you will meet the various members of the Chrouser family and journey with them as they go about their life.

Today I missed Tegan's baseball game because I had to get my nails done! What kind of Grandma am I? Hey I deserve some pampering too! Grandpa George made it to the game though and got to watch him play. He plays every Tuesday night and we make it to as many games as we can. It is so cute to watch these kids because they are so serious about this game. They try to hit the ball so hard and wind up like they are professional ball players. They get up to bat, dig in, wiggle a little and swing batter!! We love it. Next sport up for Tegan is football. Guess he's growing up.

Our garden is finally growing nicely after so much rain and cold weather! Now if the deer and rabbits would just leave it alone we'd be ok. We put a fence around it but it doesn't seem to make a difference, they seem to find a way in. George has taken to carrying around the 22 lately so maybe I'll be making rabbit stew soon
